Mark Roemer Oakland Looks at Bathroom Makeover Mistakes That You Should Avoid

Like most residences, the definition of a “humble bathroom” has changed drastically over time. According to Mark Roemer Oakland, the bathroom isn’t just a place to get yourself cleaned. It is a sanctuary where you can isolate yourself from the stress of the daily grind and recharge yourself. However, it is important to not waste excessive time, money, and effort on your dream bathroom makeover. Here are the bathroom makeover mistakes you should avoid:

The Mistakes

1. Don’t go overboard with your budget

While a few luxuries may be okay, it is important that you don’t blow out your budget on minor makeovers. A good way to keep your bathroom makeover expenses in check is to keep the total cost of your makeover within a reasonable fraction of the value of your property. For instance, it may be around 10 to 20 percent, but anything over that wouldn’t be fruitful.

2. Get the waterproofing certificate

Leaks are one of the most common problems in a bathroom. Fixing a leaking shower isn’t cheap and hence needs to be done by a certified waterproofing tradesman. Don’t forget to collect the waterproofing warranty and certificate when you take care of the leaks. This also helps you to avoid hassles when you sell your home after a bathroom makeover. Make sure to keep a close watch on the tiler on follow up trades. A broken tile or the tiler’s trowel can compromise the waterproof membrane and lead to leaks.

3. Don’t forget about ventilation

People would often find disgusting mold growing on their freshly painted walls after a makeover. Poor ventilation is the usual culprit and a lot of people don’t take it into account during their renovation. Open windows aren’t enough for proper ventilation. Hence, you should always take into account the cost of a dehumidifier system or exhaust fan before a makeover. It is also a good idea to paint your bathroom walls with mold-resistant or oil-based paint.

4. Avoid overcrowding

It is important that you keep your bathroom free from clutter, just like your living space. There’s no need to install a toilet if you have a separate one close to your bathroom. If free space gets too small with a shower and a bathtub, then go with a shower over the bath setup.

5. Don’t skimp out on lighting

Most bathroom tasks require a well-lit environment. Everything from shaving and waxing to makeup and styling your hair. Apart from good ambient lighting, you should also install a vanity mirror or a mirror with lighting that gets partially redirected to the face. This prevents you from struggling when you want to shave off facial hair from the tricky place under your ear or want to apply makeup around the nose.

Mark Roemer Oakland suggests that you avoid the above-mentioned mistakes and get the most out of your bathroom makeover. You should also fix any issues of poor drainage since that results in a lot of accidents.
